Psychiatrist
An opportunity exists to join a small team of Psychiatrists in Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne – lead by our Psychiatry Lead, Kathryn Drew.
Join us in bringing a new approach to medical and wellbeing care for detainees by:
- Conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for individuals in detention, including face-to-face and telehealth
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, culturally appropriate, and trauma-informed care
- Providing clinical leadership and guidance to staff across the network, contributing to a positive team culture
- Supporting continuity of care by liaising with external mental health providers and legal representatives
- Participating in clinical governance, quality improvement, and reflective practice activities
This role is ideally 1 day per week or fortnight, with a combination of face-to-face and virtual (telehealth) service delivery. Face-to-face work is primarily based at Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre, located approximately 90km northeast of Perth which operates similarly to a community clinic, with scheduled appointments and coordinated care. Occasional face-to-face time may also be required at the Perth Immigration Detention Centre, located near Perth Airport

As a Psychiatrist you will bring a strong commitment to delivering high-quality mental health care ideally in other complex settings such as forensic, custodial, or immigration health environments (but not mandatory), and are confident navigating culturally diverse, trauma-impacted populations. You thrive in a multidisciplinary team and are looking for a meaningful role where your expertise contributes to broader service development and improved outcomes for those in your care.
