Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is a crucial component to ensuring the day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently. An ideal candidate for our team would have a minimum of 2-3 year’s experience in a staff accountant role. This role requires the ability to work well on a remote team.

What you’ll do…   

Accounts Payable & Expense Management 

• Review, verify, and process employee expense reports in compliance with company policies and IRS regulations. 

• Audit expense submissions for accuracy, reasonableness, and appropriate coding to general ledger accounts. 

• Work closely with employees to collect receipts, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely submission of expenses. 

• Process vendor invoices promptly, ensuring accuracy, proper approvals, and timely payment. 

Month-End Close 

• Prepare and post routine journal entries for accruals, prepaid expenses, and other monthly adjustments. 

• Reconcile key asset and liability accounts, investigating and resolving variances promptly. 

• Maintain accurate schedules for fixed assets, prepaid accounts, and other balance sheet items. 

• Assist with month-end closing activities to ensure financial statements are completed accurately and on time. 

Accounts Receivable 

• Prepare and submit client invoices and track payment collections in Xero 

• Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up with clients to ensure timely payment. 

• Record incoming payments and reconcile customer accounts to maintain accurate AR balances. 

• Communicate professionally with clients to resolve billing questions or discrepancies. 

  

You should have…  

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration 

• 2+ years of experience in a finance or accounting role 

• Strong motivation and exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to manage sensitive processes and deadlines with urgency 

• Strong understanding of GAAP and standard accounting procedures. 

• Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and journal entries. 

• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Excel. 

• High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. 

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating across teams and with external vendors or clients. 

• A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process efficiency. 

  

Preferred Qualifications    

• CPA certification or progress toward CPA designation 

• Experience working in the construction, consulting, or technology services industry 

• Familiarity with project-based accounting or client billing systems 

• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups
